The Making Of…

March 19, 2009

Jodi Murphy brought a crew to the home of one of our clients for a photograph that will launch our new ad campaign.  A series of new ads will be in the spirit of fun, style and innovation you’ve come to love and expect from Miller Design Co.  We don’t want to give everything away so stay tuned for the actual ad and until then enjoy, “The Making of…”

Gabrielle “Gabby” Feuersinger, our cake artist extraordinaire, delivered a Mondrian inspired tiered cake for the photo shoot.  Gabby was able to turn our vision into an edible work of art.  She is a native San Franciscan and returned in 2007 from her time spent with LA’s Cake Divas to open her own studio, Cake Coquette.  Her bio is impressive and the cakes she makes are beautiful expressions of her talent.

Our favorite photographer Dean is ready!

For the past year, we’ve been using Dean J. Birinyi as our photographer of choice.  He takes his craft seriously and he’s always very eager to make sure we are happy with the results.  “I appreciate that he’s so willing to listen and adjust to my vision,” says Jodi Murphy.  “He is extremely client oriented without sacrificing the quality of the final product.”  Dean’s motto is “Helping you is why I am here,” and he really lives up to it.  We’ve asked him to photograph people, architecture and interiors with impressive results.

The new ad campaign is the brainchild of Jodi Murphy and Lea McIntosh.  Jodi is our marketing director and Lea is a master at all things creative.  The two have collaborated on several of our marketing materials – Jodi writes the text and Lea is the graphic designer.  To keep our message fresh, they developed a new concept that will roll out in June of this year in Gentry Magazine.

Special thanks goes to Bloomingdale’s Stanford for loaning us the Nambe Butterfly crystal bowl we used as ice bucket, Waterford and Calvin Klein linens, Nambe crystal champagne flutes, and Kate Spade cake serving set.

We couldn’t have attempted this without the cooperation and support from RIMI Systems Integration.  Our client’s home and the site of this photo shoot uses this impressive company for their security and home integration.  Everything was at the touch of a button and Dean was able to use the integrated lighting system and the natural sunlight as his only sources of lighting.  Music flowed freely from room to room and there wasn’t an unsightly speaker anywhere!  The environment was set at the perfect temperature – enough to keep us warm and cozy without melting the cake!

The Miller team will be temporarily moving the existing sofa arrangement near the fireplace.  “We will be bringing in new sofas, chairs, rug and accessories – choosing colors that will complement the portrait of  Mrs. Roth which hangs above the mantel.  It was painted in 1981 by Lloyd Sexton, a well-known Hawaiian painter and friend of Mrs. Roth.

Stay tuned for the installation and after shots or come to Filoli and check out the show.  There will be professional florists and amateur floral designers participating and the gardens will be in full bloom.  We are doing one of the only vignettes along with Tiffany & Co who will be setting the table in the dining room.  We’re thrilled to be a part of this great event!
